Party: SUNDAY SKOOL PRESENTS DJ RICE & TODD OMOTANI

The HiFi Club is proud to present SUNDAY SKOOL LONG WEEKEND EDITION featuring DJ RICE and special guest TODD OMOTANI

Todd Omotani

Stereolab resident DJ Todd Omotani, is famous for tearing it up on the dancefloors of parties and for his long run of legendary club residencies. His popularity is due to his incredible ear for ass-shaking trax, unforgettable vocals blended with soul moving rhythms, which always leads to packed dancefloors.

Omotani, introduced to house music by Canadian house music pioneer DJ Rice in the summer of 1987. Over the next 6 years Omotani had his skills tuned and sharpened by Calgary legends Dean Clark, Mike Eremita and DJ Rice.

In 1995 Todd’s best friend took him on a trip to the house music mecca of Chicago, Illinois. Todd had found exactly what he had been looking for, “underground”. So he began to make regular trips to Chicago, as well as bringing Chicago’s finest djs to DJ across Western Canada. On his trips to Chicago, Todd formed strong friendships and bonds with DJ Heather, DJ Colette, Tim “Home & Garden” Shumaker, Gene Farris, Johnny Fiasco, Légo, Mark Grant, JDub, and Derrick Carter. But the person that was the key to learning and absorbing the Chicago style of djing / production was from the notorious Diz.

Returning back to Vancouver with his absorbed knowledge, Omotani’s following grew through notorious house nights at Vancouver’s biggest clubs, Sonar, Shine, Bar None, Celebrities, Saturday resident for almost 7 years at the infamous “World” afterhours, and Ginger 62. Omotani’s following has spread beyond the borders of Canada leading to guest appearances at clubs around the globe, most notable is the night where he is formidably known as ‘the godfather’- SOLID in Tokyo, Japan. Together with Marshall Boardman, Todd created the concept and brand to the world famous monthly party which is considered to be one of Tokyo’s best house music parties.

The last few years have been incredible for Todd. A year living in Chicago, where he was behind some of Chicago’s notorious parties. Together as co-creators / djs at “The Tightfist Sessions” with Chicago’s dj of dj’s Diz, they collaborated to throw the critically acclaimed “Prescription Reunion” party with Chez Damier and Ron Trent. Todd was also a key to bringing the Tokyo House sound to Chicago with Kai Ishikawa and DJ Heather at “Chi-bu-ya” (Smartbar). This success lead to other opportunities, and in August ‘07 Todd was invited to play at Marques Wyatt’s mecca of a house night “DEEP” in Los Angeles with DJ Colette and DJ Heather.

Back in Vancouver for 2008, the year began with the highly anticipated release of the Vestax 580Pro dj mixer being released, in which Todd was a consultant on the design. followed by residencies at Ginger 62 and Gorg-O-mish.

2009 started off with a bang with a critically acclaimed 3 hour set at Deep-LA. Shortly after Todd moved to Singapore, where he quickly joined up with the upstart club Stereolab (which has quickly become world famous for it’s amazing analogue SBS Sound System). His residency has been nothing short of amazing; playing at the Official F-1 Lounge; sharing the decks with Dennis Ferrer, Danny Krivit, Louie Vega, Aaron Ross, jojoflores, Jean-Claude Ages, Pete Tong and most recently with mr 6:23 himself – Kerri Chandler.

2010 looks to be even better, with Todd’s single ‘I Left My…’ featuring Jaidene Veda and remixes by Charles Webster - due out July 20th, as well as Todd joining the hottest new spot on the west coast, Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, BC. The brainchild of Vancouver’s Rob Rizk boast the new Dancestack 3 Function-One sound system. This year is going to be incredible!
