What is Parkour?
Parkour is training method and approach to help individuals overcome obstacles with movement, this may include running, jumping, climbing, vaulting, crawling etc. Movements alone are just movements; it is the reason and approach to your training which makes the Parkour practitioner.
The Parkour approach utilities several values to shape the way an individual trains, these include:
- Have fun. - Use creativity, exploration and challenge for find solutions to obstacles faced.
- Non-Competition. - Parkour is about you, not public success or failure.
- Start together, finish together. - Work together to achieve your goals.
- Functional movement application. - Be strong and be useful to those around you.
- Progression. - Practice and improvement is a lifelong goal, progress and challenge steadily.
Parkour develops functional co-ordination, problem solving, general health and fitness, risk assessment, strength building, cardiovascular development, a better awareness and understanding of your body and movement and the ability to act and move when life demands.
If you'd like to move, have fun, make new friends, become stronger and more capable in movement and life, come to a taster session and see what it's about!
