Matt Hires

Matt Hires is an American singer-songwriter from Tampa, Florida. Drawing inspiration from influences as disparate as The Band, Sufjan Stevens, Wilco and Ryan Adams, Matt became the first artist to sign with F-Stop Music, an imprint of Atlantic Records.

As a cabinet store worker by day and a musician by night, Hires always had a heroic passion for music.Matt’s father, also a musician, introduced him to music at a young age, giving him the handmade guitar that Matt continues to play. Initially drawn to the punk, Post-hardcore, and Emo scenes, Matt later developed an interest in artists like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, which explains the uniqueness of his vocal and instrumental harmonies that dabble in both traditional and contemporary musical realms.n

Hires began his music career as frontman for Tampa, FL based band Brer. The band’s debut record, Microwavable, was produced by Will Denton, longtime drummer for Steven Curtis Chapman. Atlantic Records A&R executive, Gregg Nadel, fell in love with his sound. Soon Hires began working with producer Eric Rosse (Sara Bareilles, Tori Amos, David Archuleta), and together they recorded his first full-length record.

Special Guests

Chris Koza

Chris Koza is a songwriter/musician living and working in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the climate, the mighty Mississippi River and the balance of large city and rural communities offer continued inspiration.

Koza grew up in Portland, Oregon and studied piano throughout elementary school before expanding to guitar, euphonium, and theater/voice while in high school. Koza first came to Minnesota to attend St. Olaf College where he studied music theory and participated in the men’s freshman choir and jazz ensemble. He began writing original songs and lyrics, and seeking a broad liberal arts exposure, decided not to pursue a music major and instead graduated with a degree in studio art (oil painting) and Philosophy.

Lately, Koza has utilized his role as a musician in educational and outreach opportunities. During the winter of 2013, Koza was artist in residence and produced a performance with the Hopkins High School Orchestra. Later that year through the aid of grant funding, Koza and Rogue Valley spent a week in Koochiching County visiting schools and engaging with students before performing at the Backus Community Center in International Falls. Additionally, Koza is a regular guest musician and lecturer at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul and at the Institute of Production and Recording in Minneapolis.

In Fall of 2014, Koza released his latest solo record, In Real Time, and embarked on a national tour in support of his album with indie pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson.

Dan Rodriguez

Dan Rodriguez, an artist based out of Minneapolis, MN, is creating quite a buzz in the Midwest. The groove-based, bluesy over-toned sound of his music, mixed with his powerful, yet seductive voice creates an atmosphere different from other music. It’s refreshing, tantalizing, and just plain good!

Originally from Detroit, MI, Dan moved to Minneapolis in 2004 to pursue music. He started a band with his brother, Andre Rodriguez, and called it The Auburns. They played locally for a couple of years and grew together as a band, as brothers, and as musicians.

In January, 2008, Dan started a self-titled solo project in the Twin Cities. Promoting his band as a trio, Dan started playing venues in the local music scene. As things began to go well, a greater demand for Dan’s music rose high enough to inspire him to record an album.

June 13th, 2008, the album Unreal was released in Minneapolis, followed by a self-titled EP in 2011. His most recent album, Roaring Dan, was released in the Summer of 2013. Dan has since been playing locally and touring throughout the Midwest and beyond, and sharing the stage with national acts including Grammy award winning duo The Civil Wars, Pete Francis (Dispatch), NeedtoBreathe, Augustana, Tyrone Wells, John McLaughlin, Andy Grammer and Eric Hutchinson.

In September 2014 Budweiser released their “Friends Are Waiting” commercial featuring Dan’s performance of his original song “When You Come Home,” which was written for the commercial and pitched through Minneapolis based company In The Groove Music.
