There is no band in the UK doing electronic rock like Losers do. It is dark, brooding, emotionally brutal music of the most epic nature. America knows this. That is why you’ll find Losers songs used by colossal TV shows like ‘Game Of Thrones’ and films like ‘Hercules’. In actual fact, Losers are, pound for pound, one of the UK’s most ‘Synched’ bands in the USA, appearing on some of the biggest and most watched shows in the world, from ‘CSI’ to Michael Bay’s new ‘Black Sails’.
Losers just dipped their toes into the water with their first album “Beautiful Losers” (‘Album Of The Month’ – MIXMAG, ‘degree level dance-floor science, 9 out of 10’ – IDJ Magazine, ‘earth shatteringly brilliant’ – LTD Magazine) but truly found themselves musically via their new album ‘And So We Shall Never Part’, with the addition to Losers core-team, of chart topping mixer and uber-producer Jem Godfrey and Paul Mullen (ex Automatic, YOURCODENAMEIS:MILO). These two dazzlingly talented men joined founder members Tom Bellamy (ex Cooper Temple Clause) and Eddy Temple-Morris (Xfm legendry Guru DJ) and the band has morphed into a more muscular beast, flexing a rockier, more gilt-edged guitar sound than their previous dance incarnation, whilst producing a romantically damaged but melodically immaculate second album. A new outlook, a new band, and more importantly, new songs – crunching, expansive, inventive, adventurous, darker and deeper than anyone could have ever imagined.
As Tom goes on to explain “A lot of the album is about fractured relationships, it’s about hurting the people that are closest to you…”. A powerful musical insight embodied in such tracks as the propulsive hard-riffing synth metal of ‘Acrobatica’ (a metaphor for trepidatious romance), ‘Half Built House’s haunted house atmospheres and the brooding beats of ‘Turn Around’, the former catching the attention of one James Lavelle (UNKLE) whose promissory note of an impending remix is eagerly awaited; The latter catching DJ Shadow’s ear enough for him to ask for the separate parts to ‘do something meaningful down the line’.
Losers have in fact given some of their favorite producers on the planet a track each to create a unique limited edition remix album with calligraphy by Goldie, giving their songs an alternate life and their fans a collector’s item to cherish.
A deep and dangerous throb of a hangover anthem rave, ‘DNA’ cuts right to the bone, a track that was composed by Tom after The Cooper Temple Clause split and tweaked by Eddy with his notorious and sinister electronic imprint very much embodying the darker core elements of the band. Another track that has come under the spotlight is recent single ‘Azan’, play listed by Xfm, used in the trailer and official game of Far Cry 3, XBOX’s highest grossing global title in addition to being the official theme music for the BMX Championships at the London 2012 Games, and used on the last trailer for film, Hercules.
Dropping new Losers tracks on mosh pits around UK and Europe not only significantly enhanced their reputation as formidable live performers, but forged their new body of work as well as galvanising scores of new fans. One particular new fan, Gary Numan, upon hearing the band, immediately offered them his UK tour in November 2013. The band are now a five piece, featuring Dean Pearson, one of the best drummers in the UK, and Sammi Doll from Berlin/LA band IAMX, giving the band a unique edge, and flamboyant stage presence, via her razor sharp keyboard playing. The band have just finished a European tour as hand picked guests of the legendary Sisters Of Mercy.
Losers are now in a residential studio just outside Berlin, writing and recording their third album, and early demos reveal a harrowing, brutal and emotionally next level record. Watch this space.
Their second album …And So We Shall Never Part, is out on 61seconds records.
