Born in Sydney in 1990, Nathan Cole was thrust into a very musical family. Though neither of his parents played musical instruments, they were avid music fans, exposing Nathan to music legends including Eric Clapton and BB King whilst still in the womb. Growing up, Nathan’s musical education continued with further influence from his godfather, Sydney-based Musician / Singer-Songwriter Shane Flew, who he would later perform with on many occasions. Singing in his primary school choir, along with a combined schools Opera House choir in 2002, would see Nathan’s first steps into the world of musical performance. Nathan’s love for music expanded when he learned the tenor saxophone at age 11. He continued playing the saxophone for the next three years until he began to teach himself how to play the keyboard. Entering High School fanned the flames of Nathan’s passion for music. Attending Oakhill College in the Hills District of Sydney, Nathan’s interest for music and learning musical instruments was nurtured immensely. In taking his first elective Music subject in Year 8 he expanded his repertoire by playing the guitar. He would not look back from this moment, finding a ¾ size classical guitar his parents had bought him when he was 7 years old and teaching himself how to play. Nathan started out by learning simple songs then progressing to harder and harder songs whilst picking up tips from his godfather and various teachers along the way. Nathan realised that guitar was his passion. Throughout High School, Nathan played in various bands with his mates playing guitar, performing as the band’s lead singer, or in some cases both. With an ever broadening range of music influences, now including the likes of Ozzy Osbourne to Guns n’ Roses and Pink Floyd, Nathan began to dabble in writing his own songs from the age of 15. Taking Music subjects from Year 10 – 12, including Music 2 (Advanced) and Extension Music (which he topped in year 12), his musical education continued to flourish. Upon finishing his final year of High School, Nathan began to prolifically write music. Continuing to learn and grow as a musician he continued to develop his songs, and contribute more to his portfolio. Over 2009 to 2010 Nathan began to record his songs utilising home recording hardware and software. Using just one microphone with Garage Band software, Nathan completed recording his track titled “Individual” in March 2010.
